UK and USA book launches for Holy Communion in Contagious Times

The UK launch for my new book, Holy Communion in Contagious Times, took place on 21 January at Southwark Cathedral – and also online in a Zoom meeting (pictured above) – where several people spoke very kindly and generously about the book. A recording of the launch (in four parts) is now available on my new YouTube channel – see part 1 below, with all four parts available on YouTube.

The book gained some very welcome coverage by the Church Times giving prominence (as well as a cartoon!) to my Opinion article, Is a Zoom rite a valid form of communion? (PDF) and also a news feature by Madeleine Davies, Communion online is valid, says Burridge (PDF).

The UK launch has now been complemented with a US launch on 24 February in Virginia Theological Seminary (VTS), where I was on research and writing leave. It was chaired by the Dean and President, the Very Revd Dr Ian Markham, and featured contributions by several of the theologians who teach at the seminary, as well as members of the online audience, including Bishop Andy Doyle, the Bishop of Texas and Simon Jenkins from Ship of Fools in the UK. The launch was livestreamed on VTS’s Facebook page, and the recording of the event is above.

Given the interest provoked by the book already, I am very interested in offers to speak or participate in other discussions and debates about this topic – please use the contact or booking pages.
