Yesterday, Today, Forever

On 21st May 1999, Richard was honoured to be invited to preach in the presence of Her Majesty the Queen and Prince Philip at the service in the University Church of St Mary the Virgin, Oxford to celebrate the 750th anniversary of the first benefaction for higher education anywhere in the English-speaking world, the bequest of William of Durham in 1249 for the founding of the University Hall in Oxford – what we know better as University College or Univ.  I preached on ‘Yesterday, Today, Forever’ drawing on that description of Jesus Christ in Hebrews 11 and applying it to the 750 years of Univ.’s history. Afterwards, I was privileged to accompany HM the Queen and Prince Philip around an exhibition about the development of higher education in Oxford.
