Richard’s inaugural lecture as Dean of King’s College London was entitled: ‘The King’s Values? Consumer Culture and Higher Education’. The lecture was delivered on Monday 9 October 1995.
The lecture was reported in the Times Higher Educational Supplement later that month, in an article entitled Tesco, ergo sum, with a cartoon of Jesus clearing Kenneth Baker, Education Secretary, out of the temple.
The lecture also gave rise to an article in Theology entitled, Wisdom, Spirituality and Community in the University.
